Need for Design

For every project you're working on, a design process is absolutely essential. Here are three very important reasons why:
  1. It sets clear expectations If you share with your customer what the design process looks like, it allows you to create a realistic project that will be delivered. The customer will know exactly what to expect from you and when to expect it, effectively removing needless miscommunication.
  2. Putting customers at Ease Many customers start working with us unaware of all it takes to transform a good idea into a great final product. With a clear and concise design process in place, during the design phase of your project, you will show the client exactly where their money is going.
  3. Reduces risk of failure All aspects of product design need to be taken into account and a good design process accounts for all. You can, of course, create a great-looking product with a visual design alone, but if there is no consideration behind its usability or analysis behind it, you increase the risk of failure of your product.

Design Philosophy

"Design philosophy" is just somebody's perspective on design: what they're trying to accomplish with design, and more specifically, what one feels design can accomplish.
Others believe that architecture has nothing to do with aesthetics. Most people think architecture is all about utility.

Many claim that architecture is not in isolation; it is a representation of the broader society. And so should architecture as society changes.

Need of Clothing

Clothing, shoes, is a part of our lives. We protect us, warm us up and give us enjoyment. They reflect our personality and have our attitudes expressed.
Based on the reasons given above, four theories were developed to explain the origin of clothing, which are:
  1. Protection Theory
  2. The Modesty Theory
  3. The Adornment Theory
  4. The Combined Need Theory

Protection Theory

Human beings are defenseless according to the protection theory and need protection from the environment and other creatures. Clothing provides them with a portable physical protective source.
In order to protect the body from excessive heat, cold and bites and stings of insects and animals, clothing was made from animal skins and parts of trees including their bark.

Theory of Modesty

This suggests people wear clothes to cover up or hide the private parts of the human body first. The definition of what's right and what's wrong in the clothing varies from individual to individual, from culture to culture.
For example, if she goes out without wearing a burkha it is considered immodest for Muslim women. And it is considered immodest in a few African tribes which remove earrings and lip plugs.
This shows that the sense of shame and modesty is not inborn, but a learned and developed conduct at a specific point of time based on beliefs, practices, cultural traditions or culture.

Theory of Adornment

This theory refers to the decorative nature of clothing and other forms of appearance; changes for display, appeal or aesthetic expression.

The Combined Need Theory

The theory of combined need is based on the theory of the hierarchy of needs, which describes the human being as an ever-wanting creature whose demands move from one priority level to the next. This theory states five needs levels. These are Psychological Safety Belongingness self-esteem self-realization or actualization The first level refers to the need for clothing to protect against physical and psychological forces.
Protection also relates to safety.
Also, clothing helps one gain recognition within a group and gives a sense of belonging to it.
Dress helps to boost self-esteem by enhancing the wearer's appearance.
It maximizes the wearer's potential and helps to self-realize.

According to this theory, therefore, the reason behind wearing clothes can be a combination of needs-with the next becoming important once the previous need has been met or satisfied.

Types of Design

  1. Geometric
  2. Abstract
  3. Thematic

Geometric Design

Not derived from nature To form designs using lines, squares, triangles, oblongs & circles.
These designs may be created during the construction process of knitting and weaving fabrics.
Used often for creating seamless patterns, illusions, and cool photo effects.

Abstract Design

Unrecognizable shapes and layouts Non-objective motif that can not be explained Does not derive from nature but can combine with geometric shapes and colors to produce something that is not easily recognizable.

Thematic

Based on some specific theme
